News Feeds
What are News Feeds?
News feeds provide an easy way to subscribe to content on a website. They allow you to receive the latest news as soon as it is published without having to visit the site every day.
News feeds are also known as RSS, which stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication'.
You will find news feeds on most major websites. Just look for the orange icon.
What feeds are available on the VONNE website?
We have a feed for general news and one for each of the main policy areas. In addition there is a feed for the Regional Infrastructure North East (RINE) sub-site.
You can find a list of the feeds on the right hand panel.
How do I subscribe?
This can be as simple as clicking on the orange icon.
Modern browsers such as Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox are able to display and subscribe to feeds. You can also subscribe to feeds using an email program such as Outlook 2007 or Thunderbird. See below for instructions of how to do this.
Alternatively, you can install a dedicated news reader or subscribe to an on-line service such as Google Reader or Bloglines. On-line readers allow you to view your news feed subscriptions from any computer in much the same way as you can view your email on-line in Hotmail or Yahoo.
Subscribe using Internet Explorer 7
When you go to a website that has a feed available you will notice the feed button
on the toolbar change colour from grey to orange. To view the feed, click on the button. Alternatively you can click on the feed icon wherever you see it on a page.
On the VONNE site there is more than one feed. Clicking on the feed button in the toolbar will give you the main News feed. Clicking on the arrow next to the icon will give you a list of all of the feeds available.
To subscribe to the feed, click on the Subscribe to Feed button. This will add the feed to your Favourites.
Please note that this feature is not available in Internet Explorer 6 or previous versions.

To subscribe to the feed click on the "Subscribe Now" button.
Subscribe using Outlook 2007

In Outlook 2007, on the Tools menu, click Account Settings. On the RSS Feeds tab, click New. Copy and paste the URL of the RSS Feed from the address bar in your browser to this box. Click Add and then OK.

Using VONNE's news feeds on your site
If you run your own website, you can display the latest headlines from other websites on your own site using RSS.
We are happy for voluntary and community sector organisations in the North East of England to use the feed on their websites. However we do require that VONNE is acknowledged where the feed is used and ask that you let us know on where you have placed the feed.
We reserve the right to prevent the distribution of VONNE news feed content. VONNE does not accept any liability for its feeds. Please see the Terms and Conditions for full details.
