Economic Regeneration
In order to meet the targets set out in the Regional Economic Strategy, over 70,000 more people would have to enter employment and around 22,000 new businesses would need to be created by 2016. To some these may sound like ambitious targets, however even if they were met the region would remain 10% below the UK average in terms of Gross Value Added.
